 DC - U ST MUSIC HALL - 10/17
« Thread Started on Sept 14, 2012, 4:14pm »

Odd venue choice, but I'l take it! Should be completely stellar. Now, if only I can figure out where/when tix go on sale. Because I thought I was on every DC music listserv known to man but I haven't seen a presale and the THS website says "presale sold out"

Eep. The best system in town. Also one of the smallest rooms. Glad to see they're playing somewhere else other than the 9:30 Club. U Street Music Hall sometimes doesn't have pre-sale for tickets - differs from band to band. That might be why it's listed as sold out.

Wow. Kinda shocked they're playing U Street Music Hall. It's a small venue, and it's going to be packed and sweaty.

If anyone gets information about tickets. please post!

So is this SMALLER than the 9:30? I remember seeing Fugazi and Sonic Youth at a defunct roller skating rink. I wonder if this is the place.

From http://www.ustreetmusichall.com/about

"Its 500-person capacity room features one of the city’s best sound systems, a 1200 square foot cork-cushioned dance floor and two bars with a full liquor selection."

That puts it at a little more than a third of the size of the 930 Club. So yeah, small venue.

So like Spinal Tap, they're getting more selective. Don't worry about DC. It's not a big college town. ;)

Seriously though, if they sold out the 9:30 last time, you'd think they'd go bigger now. Regression is like a gift to us fans.

The Ticketfly site keeps crashing on me. :( Probably going to miss getting tickets. :(

So after having my cart timeout 3 times and failing to get through on the phone...I finally got my pair of tickets! See you there, dudes! This will be my first THS show since the Record Store Day in NYC(Bowery and MHOW) shows in 2010. Looking forward to it!

Come up to Bawlmer, Hon. We know where to eat, where to drink. Seriously, I work nights and am not sure I can get the night off. If I can get it off, it's ON. I've got tix *alert - might have to sell them* If you can get to Sykesville or Columbia we can eat and/or drink at a fun/cheap place and you and your homies will be driven to the show by us.

Anybody seeing Grace Potter in Dec? Got tix....

Haha. I'll be at the ottobar too. It's seriously one of my favorite places to see a show. I'm just had a friend picking up tix for me for the U Hall show and I'm short a ticket for my husband. Oops.

of course, the ths website lists a night where u hall claims to be having another show with 4 bands and a dj; so perhaps there is some more fundamental problem.

Shut out for both shows. If you're looking to unload tickets for either, I'm interested.

U Street Music Hall has 9:00 listed as the start time for some DJ crap on both Oct. 17 and 18. With 7:00 doors and an opening act, and they need to clear the place out by 9:00, that leaves maybe an hour for The Hold Steady? wtf? How greedy is this venue?

I went to an early show there once before, and it went ok, with the headliner playing about an hour and a half. There wasn't the usual long delay between doors and bands, just straight to business. Early show may not be ideal for THS, but it'll be fine as long as folks know to show up early!

They do this quite often since they're primarily a dance club that's been experimenting with rock shows of late. The shows have never felt rushed to me and they aren't wrangling everyone up that was at the early show and kicking them out the door the second the lights come up. It's one of the best run clubs in town. No need to worry.

Huge Hold Steady fan, just never been on this board, so I figured I'd post here for a possible ticket trade. I got 2 tickets to the Thu 10/18, but Wed 10/17 would work MUCH better for me. No B.S., no money, just want to trade my two 10/18's for your two 10/17's. Happy to meetup anywhere in the area.

Also on Craigslist here if you want to see my confirmation: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/doc/tix/3300876914.html

Can't wait for the show. 9:30 Club was always sick, but USMH should be something special. Quite an intimate gig. And don't worry about the show afterwards, it's not like they drag you out with a hook. Should be amazing.

Any updates on tonight's show yet? I've got tickets for tomorrow's and I really want to know if they are really only playing 8-9. I'm hoping they push the whole thing a little later and forget the DJ they have scheduled...

Went on around 8:20. Left the stage between 9:45-10. It might have been a bit longer than that. I wasn't really paying attention. The set didn't feel shortened by the evening entertainment. Definitely a missed opportunity to play "Most People Are DJs" in a traditionally dance club, but that might have been too on the nose.

Setlist:
Records And Tapes (New song played for the first time; reminds me of Curves and Nerves)
Stuck Between Stations
Cattle And The Creeping Things
Sequestered In Memphis
The Swish
Rock Problems
Magazines
Sweet Part Of The City
Teeth Dreams
You Can Make Him Like You
Wait Awhile
Constructive Summer
Hot Soft Light
Chips Ahoy!
Hurricane J
Southtown Girls
Your Little Hoodrat Friend (with a lovely Craig Finn solo during the bridge)
Ascension Blues
Massive Nights
Slapped Actress
/
Multitude of Casualties
Stay Positive
How A Resurrection Really Feels

Wow, haven't been on the boards in a while. Writing up this show for BYT, not sure just yet how. Show was amazing, best I've seen in a while, love the three guitar attack.

Anybody have a spare ticket for the 10/18 show? Really don't want to miss it, considering last night.
